Many adults are comfortable using software but have never wired a sensor, read a microcontroller pinout, or made code control a physical device. The CHIPS adult cohort is designed to close that gap without assuming an electrical engineering background.

Participants use the ESP32 to learn electronics, embedded programming, connected devices, and practical AI-assisted development. The emphasis is on understanding a working system and gaining enough confidence to continue building independently.

Audience: Adults 18+, including complete beginners

Schedule: Wednesday evenings in Los Altos

Why learn hardware now?

AI can generate software quickly, but physical systems still require judgment about wiring, voltage, sensors, timing, communication, and safety. A device either reads the environment reliably or it does not.

Learning hardware gives product managers, software engineers, designers, founders, educators, and curious beginners a more complete view of how connected products are built.

Participants build at the table and encounter real faults. The instructor provides a model for diagnosis, but the learner makes the measurement, changes the wire, edits the code, and confirms the result.

That process is more demanding than a lecture, but it creates durable confidence because every concept is attached to a device the participant has handled.

How AI is used

AI tools can clarify compiler errors, compare libraries, draft test code, or suggest a debugging sequence. Participants also learn to check generated answers against the board documentation and actual circuit.

The aim is not to memorize every API. It is to become a careful technical operator who can use modern tools while recognizing when the output is wrong.
